Unripe

Unripe(2025)

Unripe is a photography project inspired by the aesthetic language of Miu Miu. The project explores the inner world of adolescent girls, focusing on the subtle and complex relationship between innocence and rebellion, vulnerability and independence.

At the center of the project is the green apple, a recurring symbol of youth and growth. Neither fully ripe nor immature, it embodies a stage of life filled with curiosity, uncertainty, and transformation. Inspired by the symbolic use of green apples in literature and films such as Indian Summer, the project uses the fruit as a metaphor for the quiet thoughts, shifting perceptions, and emerging self-awareness that accompany the transition from girlhood to adulthood.

At the same time, the project draws on the tension between femininity and rebellion that defines Miu Miu’s visual identity. It challenges conventional ideas of rebellion by suggesting that it does not always appear loud, dramatic, or confrontational. Instead, rebellion can exist beneath a sweet, delicate, and seemingly obedient exterior. The girls portrayed in the series may appear soft and youthful, yet they possess independent minds, a growing sense of self, and the courage to question expectations placed upon them.

By combining the symbolism of the green apple with Miu Miu’s distinctive girlhood aesthetic, Unripe views adolescence as a process of self-discovery and identity formation. The project reflects on the contradictions and transformations that shape this period of life, capturing young women as they navigate the space between innocence and maturity while gradually learning to define themselves on their own terms.
